Bisque Dolls

Simon and Halbig Review

Simon and Halbig DollSimon and Halbig

S&H made dolls from their own porcelain factories in the Thuringia region of Germany at Frafenhain and Hidburghausen.

They made very fine bisque dolls heads ,arms and legs and these were eagerly purchased by other doll makers.
This was a common practice by both French and German dollmakers who would then attach the S&H heads

to their own doll bodies and add their own dresses and accesories.
Several factories in the Sonneberg area also used Siman and Halbig bisque heads  and these included Carl Berger and Cuno and Otto Dressel.

Simon and Halbig Heads were also used on the Edison Phongraph Doll.
S& H were an innovative company, they even registered a swimming doll.
Some of their heads included Sleep Mechanisms, flirty eyes, open or closed mouths, and many had pierced ears.

Early dolls from S&H are more collectable as towards the end of the life of the company , they made less interesting and less expensive dolls.

There may be a little confusion about which factory made which head as some factories traded molds with each other.

Some of the Major Dollmakers who bought bisque heads from S&H were:
Jumeau
Fleischmann & Blodel
SFBJ
A numberof American dollmakers also used S&H heads
Eventually they were bought out by Kammer and Reinhardt in 1920
