Black Bisque Dolls

Black Dolls are generally speaking,harder to find.
Black Bisque Dolls are a little scarcer than you would expect but I think no Bisque Doll collection is complete without some of these little lovelies.

I have found the best place to look for Black Bisque Dolls is in French Antique Markets.
Other Markets and antiques malls also produce some great finds.

These dolls  were made in many materials from Bisque to cloth,paper,wood and papier-mâché
Some earlier black bisque dolls were just painted versions of the white counterparts but some dolls were made and had exagerated feature that would not be acceptable today.

there are superb examples available of these dolls from a number of makers including Madame Alexander.

African American dolls often have realistic features and hairstyles many of which are still popular today.

Porcelain and Bisque examples were made by most of the Major French Dollmakers
Ones to look out for are the Jumeaus mulatto and black bisque headed dolls and character black dolls by Gebrude Heubach.SFBJ and Kestner made lovely Black dolls and so did Bru Jne & Co.

Carl Bergman made a tthree face doll with two whie faces and a black face.

Many of these were shipped to French Colonies and can still be found there today.

Bebe and Character Dolls were also made and French makers also made Black bisque heads of exceptional quality.

Madame Alexander,Vogue and Horsman also offered black dolls in theri doll ranges.
Black Portrait dolls exist and a growing trend is for black one of a kind dolls.
