Frozen Charlotte
A one piece immobile doll produced mainly between 1860 and 1900.

 

Original early Frozen Charlottes are only about 1 inch long and these are fairly rare.

Frozen Charlottes are the name given to an immobile doll.
True frozen charlottes are one piece and all of the body parts are solidly linked to the body.
They were mostly made between 1860 and 1900 and were mainly female and nude.

Frozen Charlottes were always made of Porcelain and were usually painted (often quite crudely)

Cooks used to bake them into Pies,cakes and Christmas puddngs to please children.

Another version of the Frozen Charltte story is that they were used to cool down hot tea but I prefer the cookery version !
Most Frozen Charlottes are nude.

Alleged to have originated in the USA but copies are known from Germany and Japan.
Frozen Charlottes are  glazed only on one side.
There is a male version know as a Frozen Charlie !

and yes it is anatomically correct !
