Dolls were mainly made as a body,socketed head and limbs.

These all  were marked with the same model number according to size.

 

Most Doll Makers used home workers to assemble and dress the dolls they made so this system was used by most Doll Makers to avoid putting the wrong sized limbs on bodies.

 

f you are replacing and restringing a doll please make sure that the number for the limbs matches both the body AND the porcelain or bisque head.

Otherwise your doll will look a little ... unusual !

 

Replacement parts for dolls are now widely available both drom dolls hospitals and online.

A whole industry has grown around making spare parts and heads for dolls (often from original molds)

 

Please check what any missing limbs should look like before ordering though to avoid disappointment
