The Jumeau Phonographe model was a talking doll with an internal mechanism.
Talking dolls and walking Dolls became the rage in France and many were made - however due to high cost of this model not too many were actually sold.
 
This is now a Rare Jumeau Doll and is normally only seen in museums.
 
Mechanisms on talking dolls were usually either clockwork or worked with a string and usually just said one or two word - Mama being the normal speech.
