Jumeau Bisque

Jumeau is one of the larger and more popular makers of Bisque Dolls.

 

Bisque is really a porcelain doll that has only been baked once.

This gives the doll a more human looking appearance but it DOES make the Dolls head more fragile.

Porcelain is baked twice with  a second coat to make the dolls head glossy.
Buisque makes it easier for the dollmaker to paint a realistic flesh tone and features.
The features (lips,eyes,eyebrows). also look sharper and more realistic.

If you are looking to buy a doll in person you should check that there is no visible damage or cracks on the bisque parts as this seriously devalues the dolls worth.

Check also around the glass eyes if they are not painted on and all visible features for missing parts or damage.

A Magnifying glass is a valuable aid. Ask if there have been any repairs to the doll and if the clothes are original. (newer clothes or shoes devalue the doll)

Check the cheeks for signs of rubbing and the neck socket for damage.
If the body and limbs are marked check the number is the same as otherwise the doll will look incorrect.
Ask if the accessories are original as this affects the price too.

Remember that the more visible any damage may be the more it devalues the doll.
