Jumeau Dolls

 

Ever since the 1840s  Jumeau have made some of the most beautiful and collectable dolls.

It was a combination of the design of the doll herself plus the clothes (always the latest fashions)
That cmobination attracted young French Girls to his dolls..

Pester power is apprently not a new invention !

Jumeau start by making papier mache fashion dolls and went on to make bisque and porcelain dolls.

His greatest success was with his range of bebe dolls = so mu so that he ended up suing an ex-employee
 for taking the name Paris Bebe which was one of his best sellers.

Early Jumeau dolls are mostly unmaked but Jumeau later instituted a system of marking his doll a eith at the name pof the neck or on the back.
Another system he used was to mark all the various parts of each doll with a size number which made it more simple
for the homeworkers he used to get all the limbs,head and body matched with each other.

Although the bebe dolls were the best seller we now usually find that his fashion dolls are more collectable.

Auction prices on Jumeau have shot up as collectors realise he value financially of a superb Jumeau Doll.
The exception to this is the early Bisque portrait dolls which can fetch extraordiny price - over $25000 is not unusual.

Jumeau declined as a company even after jouning the SFBJ concortium beacuse of the mass importation of much cheaper dolls from Germany.
